And Today I Learnt...

that I seriously suck at free motion applique!!!!...

I set out while it was almost still dark (it was light enough to know I couldn't see five feet in front of me for the fog!) for Ballarat Patchwork and Day 1 of the technique workshop with the awesome Kellie, who so does not suck at free motion applique and whose designs are seriously awesome...

The technique is a lot of fun and I did pick up a lot of great information even if my attempts so far look more art quilt than beautiful Kelliesque applique.  Given the short notice (thank you again to the lovely lady who couldn't make it so yay I got to take your place whoever you are) I didn't have time to put a whole lot of thought into fabric selection, thread matching and the like but I figured, hey, it's a sample, a practice piece and I'll worry about those issues another time....and I couldn't for the life of me last night figure out where the modern, bright, clear, colourful fabrics were...remembered that 1/2 an hour into the class this morning!  bugger!!...so everyone else had lovely fresh modern bright yummy fabrics and I didn't but not to worry as I so seriously suck at the technique so far I'm glad I'm using scraps...the dog won't care what the fabrics are when she gets the cushion to sleep on (I am not joking!)...

Good thing it is a month before Day 2 to get the homework completed (or not)...maybe by then I can get one leaf stitched down in a manner than resembles the actual technique that was taught!

Enjoy your weekend...

I felt exactly the same way when I did Kellie's workshop. Im sure you didnt suck as badly as you think you did and it's all about having fun and practice.

You have a month until the next class !

It looks fantastic already!!! I just love that design and it is great for practice... all those leaves.....
I think in all honesty we are so critical of our own work and we see every little mistake we made... others don't....
