Blackwork...a first...

Last year a group from local branch of The Embroiderers Guild, Victoria, went to country meet which was hosted by Ballarat branch. After a lovely morning of sewing and chatting, lunch and an interesting talk by one of the Ballarat members a little kit was given out for a go at Blackwork. I didn't get much of the little project done on the day as two of us wandered off early to go visit the Apron Festival (Ballarat Heritage Weekend so lots going on).

It took a few goes at getting the counting right (it's easy to pull out at least!) and a bit of head scratching to then put the whole project together but it is done and now a (I think, cute) little brooch...
My first go at Blackwork (helped by no-one seeing the back!) and once my  brain cells decided to remember how to count I did enjoy the technique.

Pansies for Y...

A few weeks ago at patchwork/quilting group friendship quilt blocks were handed out to create for Y...we were given a square of fabric she had provided for the background and asked to create a block incorporating pansies (and some purple) using any technique/method we liked.  I immediately thought of a pansy fabric in the stash to create a broderie perse bouquet...great idea except clearly I used that fabric in the distant past as it isn't living in the stash anymore....mmmm....now what?  A stitchery? Does my Tea Party quilt have a pansy block - yes it does! Winner winner chicken dinner.  I enlarged the original pattern (Tea Party "Paula" - Crab.apple Hill) to fit the size of the block requested by Y...
I was glad of needing to finish this stitchery as last week I had emergency eye surgery (sleep over at The Eye & Ear Hospital in East Melbourne) and when I came home had to hold a particular position until I saw the surgeon again at the beginning of this week, which meant I couldn't do much but it was just right for hand stitching...there had to be a positive out of the eye drama...

I hope Y likes her block and it fits in with the blocks she has received from other blocks...

Sampling with Pink & Green - Part III

The last five blocks in the patchwork block of the month(ish) at local branch of The Embroiderers Guild, Victoria, are sewn...with number 12 coming together today...
The 12 blocks all together...
...well all together lying on the floor as a group of blocks...what the final all together will be is still to be revealed - not least to me, I've no idea yet...but the fabrics in the blocks are the only fabrics being used so it depends on what I can do with what I have left (except for the background fabric which I've metres of).

For now though, task done as far as the blocks being made...
