A Quilt Show to Start 2025...

A good start to 2025...visiting a quilt show!  It's been a long time...I didn't even make it so see our own group's Oct 2024 show...a trip to Warrnambool to the biennial Southern Right Creative Festival show...lots of lovely quilty eye candy and inspiration, shop stalls lining the walls and unexpected social catch-ups one of which was Kiwikid!...I took lots of pics...these are some of my favs...

There was also a display of some fun crochet items...

My shopping list consisted of a trip to Spotlight for a skein of embroidery floss (essential) and if I saw some of those fancy zips on a stall get some coloured ones...I just may have gone off list!...

I couldn't resist the Red Tractor bird fabric...the other fabrics were in a $6/metre bargain bin at Spotty, I was looking at them both trying to decide if I needed one or the other when my friend pointed out they went together and who was I to argue! ha ha ha...

Hopefully the start of getting back to making it to more shows this year...

Bordertown Quilt Show...

Saturday 21 October saw a trip to Bordertown for the Gum Tree Quilters show...I had intended to go for the weekend but life got in the way and that wasn't going to happen so some Stawell Quilters friends offered me a spot in the car I was glad to accept.  A treat to spend the day with friends and not have to drive for once!  A first stop at Dimboola Ag Show so the driver could fulfill her judging commitment and we arrived at the Bordertown venue ready for lunch - the first person I saw when I walked in was Jo! They were finishing lunch before heading out for a while...they came back as we were having afternoon tea prior to leaving...good timing both ways!  It was lovely to see Jo, Tony, Jude (and B) & Pat...

This embroidered clock grabbed my attention straight off at the entrance into the show area...
Jude's churn dash quilt (Chooky's challenge) and Moda Love quilt (which I didn't get to see at Baradine)...good to see them in real life and not just on zoom...

Wide variety in the quilts on show...
Best in Show - congratulations Jude!...
Hexies...
Arty...
Mini quilts created for a SA Quilters Appraisal Panel members professional development exercise...
There was a second display of past winning quilts...was this one stitchery/embroidery/applique?
Up close it was the most amazing surface embroidery...
Great show Gum Tree Quilters, congratulations.

Mildura Quilt Show

First weekend in September was the date for Sunraysia Patchwork Friends quilt show - perfect excuse for a bit of a drive (only nearly 400kms one way, just around the corner *LOL*)...

The show was lovely...held in the Red Cliffs Civic Centre, a great venue...with about 80 quilts hanging with a great variety of techniques and themes...a challenge...and a secondary exhibition of vintage dresses decorating the hall...two shows in one!..

Hexies...

Fun and Arty...

This one was all embroidery...

The wings were 3-D...

Miniatures and small....

The group challenge for this show was Story Book and Jo came second with her entry...The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly...very clever idea to have all the things she swallowed on a ribbon coming out of the pocket in her dress (yes, a functioning pocket! it was unzipped for display purposes)...

The group had a project/challenge at one point where a number of members made a storm at sea quilt and there was a selection of those, no two alike and some great interpreting of the storm at sea block/theme...

 Whales in the sea...

This one may be familiar...it is Jo's version...

Happy orange fish swimming through the storm...

 Some of the vintage dresses...

This pretty blue one was my favourite...

Decorated bike in the foyer...a fun variation on the quilt covered car (which was out the front)...

Well done ladies, so glad I made the trip...
